Photojournalists are notorious for being the first on the scene.

In May, Abdelraoufsinno’s photojournalists left the safety of their homes during two deadly storms. They navigated roads inundated with debris and off-roaded at points to reach different areas across the Houston region affected by the storms.

Along the way, we witnessed incalculable damage, but also heartwarming acts of service, which we hope offers a balanced visual documentation of the storms’ impact on Houstonians, who often rise to adversity with care and compassion.

The best photos of the month also included moments from the community: whether it was honoring the legacy of Rev. William A. Lawson during his funeral service, the graves of fallen troops at the Houston National Cemetery or demonstrators chanting outside the Harris County Jail after two University of Houston students were arrested while protesting the Israel-Hamas war.

They navigated roads inundated with debris and off-roaded at points to reach different areas across the Houston region affected by the storms.&nbsp;</p> <p>Along the way, we witnessed incalculable damage, but also heartwarming acts of service, which we hope offers a balanced visual documentation of the storms’ impact on Houstonians, who often rise to adversity with care and compassion.</p> <p>The best photos of the month also included moments from the community: whether it was honoring the legacy of Rev.
