School is officially out for school districts around the region, leaving many children without access to consistent and nutritious meals.

More than 1 in 5 children struggle with hunger in Texas, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture, which administers the Summer Meal Programs across the state. Multiple organizations partner with the department to host meal sites, including school districts in the Houston region. Caregivers can call 211 or text ‘FOOD’ to 304-304 to find a site.

Additionally, some local nonprofit organizations fill in the gap during the summer break. The Houston Food Bank offers an interactive map where you can find an open pantry near you.
